UC Riverside ScotSurplus Store is back this fall in a new location after a hiatus of more than two years due to the pandemic.
ScotSurplus offers an eclectic assortment of used furniture, electronics, office supplies, clothing, books, bikes, lab supplies, and more. The articles come from departments of the university.
“ScotSurplus is a benefit to the campus and community by providing good, usable items at low prices that help during times of high inflation,” said Shari Hunke, Associate Director of Auxiliary Marketing UCR.
Housed in a warehouse for 50 years, ScotSurplus is now in a spacious new location at the Corporation Yard on Watkins Avenue offering customers easier access and more of a retail shopping experience.
Sales are offered to buyers in university departments, five days a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Public sales take place every two months, the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with dates coming November 1. and 15, followed by December 6 and 20. Credit cards and Bear Bucks are accepted.
Students can get a matching couch and chair for as low as $100, tables and chairs for $110, dressers for $75, and much more at reasonable prices, including tools and dishes.
“Purchases at ScotSurplus help students furnish their apartments and rental homes with used furniture that we recycle across campus,” Hunke said.
Items such as refrigerators, stoves, and electronics are available on Craigslist, while more expensive items such as college vehicles are sold at auction. Online sales with access to Craigslist and the auction site are available by visiting the UCR Campus Business Services Site.
All sales are final, items being sold as is. Items such as electronics are guaranteed to work properly. However, staff will work with customers if a return or exchange needs to be made.
