Someone already mentioned the late model Ford Taurus SHO, but I think the first ride was a better car. It had a high-revving Yamaha V6 and could be used with a manual transmission. They’re not fast by today’s standards, but neither is an M5 from that era.
Another excellent sleeper is the Chevrolet Impala SS from the late 2000s. It came standard with the most anonymous styling of the era, complete with very sleek polished 20-inch wheels. The Impala SS also featured all the steering torque in the world, thanks to the 5.3L V8 that Chevy crammed under the hood.
That’s how you’ll likely see a first-generation SHO today—rusted, dirty, and covered in adhesive vents and chrome. It’s a shame that such an interesting car meets such an end.
