TRAGEDY struck Long Island, New York, in 2010 after four women were found dead along a remote stretch of highway near Gilgo Beach.

Now many want to know more about the victims and what happened to them.

Who were the Gilgo Four?

In 2010, four women in their twenties were found dead within a quarter of a mile of each other.

The the victims were discovered by police during a 24-year search City of Jersey escort Shannan Gilbert.

Maureen Brainard-Barnes was an escort living in Norwich, Connecticut.

She was last seen on July 9, 2007, after taking a Amtrak to train for New York City meet a client in her hotel room, according to CNB4.

His body was discovered on December 13, 2010.

Melissa Barthelemy was an aspiring hairstylist living in New York City.

She was last seen on July 12, 2009, outside her apartment complex in the Bronx.

Described as 4ft 10in tall, Barthelemy, who often used the pseudonyms Chloe and “VerySexyChloe” online, also worked as an escort and met clients at West Side restaurants and hotels.

His body was found on December 11, 2010.

Megane Waterman

Megan Waterman resided in Scarborough, Mainebut traveled to New York to work as an escort.

She was last seen on June 6, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge.

Overwatch footage of Waterman’s last known location was later released in April 2022 and showed her arriving and leaving the hotel, according to NBC4.

His body was found on December 13, 2010.

Amber Lynn Costello

Amber Lynn Costello left Clearwater for New York, Floridaand started working as an escort.

Often calling herself Carolina or Mia, she met her clients on websites that other victims used.

She was last seen on September 2, 2010, and her body was discovered later on December 13.

Who killed the Gilgo Four?

Nowadays, the killer of Gilgo Four has not been found, but their file remains open and the police are still investigating.

In May 2022, the Suffolk County Police Department notified the public of their case and released new information about their last known locations.

“This information may be useful in prompting someone involved in the murders to speak up, to come forward, to make a mistake,” Gilbert’s estate attorney John Ray said via FOX5.

“Every little bit of new information has value. The public is a brilliant source of knowledge, and they will help us solve the case. The only way to do that is to give them information.”

A year after authorities located the bodies of the Gilgo Four, they discovered Gilbert’s body in an Oak Beach swamp, however, authorities have previously said they do not believe his death was related to the others. note NBC4.

Also called Craigslist Ripper, the killer is also believed to have killed several other people, according to the business websiteincluding:

  • Jessica Taylor was last seen in July 2003. Parts of her body were discovered on March 29, 2011.
  • Valerie Mack was last seen in the spring/summer of 2000. Parts of her body were discovered on April 4, 2011.
  • John Doe, an Asian male, was discovered on April 4, 2011.
  • “Baby Doe” was discovered on April 4, 2011.
  • Body parts of “Peaches” were discovered on April 11, 2011. She is believed to be the mother of “Baby Doe”.
